The Silver Finch Arts Collective presents its production in the 2018 Capital Fringe Festival: The Lives Left Behind.
The Lives Left Behind is a collection of four new, short operas by four different composers. They are:
- The Female Stranger, music and libretto by Joseph Kaz - This world premiere opera imagines a story behind the grave of the Female Stranger in the graveyard at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Alexandria.
- What Gets Kept, music by Frances Pollock, libretto by Vanessa Moody - This emotional opera was commissioned by the Washington National Opera's American Opera Initiative and was premiered at the Kennedy Center in 2017. It deals with difficult choices and death, and how they affect a small family.
- Dreamless, music by William Kenlon, libretto by Katie Vagnino - This world premiere opera examines the importance of dreams.
- The Name on the Door, music by Michael Oberhauser, libretto from the King James Bible and with additional text by Michael Oberhauser - This opera, which premiered in 2012, involves stardom and a woman regaining her agency.
These four operas, directed for the stage by Corinne Hayes, have a cast of six that play multiple roles in different operas. They're accompanied by a small orchestra of piano, clarinet, violin, and viola.
