GNE continues its residency at the Westmoreland Congregational United Church of Christ with a special program: Los Caprichos.
Los Caprichos, an evening-length work comprised of 80 miniatures for chamber ensemble by Artistic Director Armando Bayolo, is the culmination of five years of work. Through the use of ironic juxtapositions, humor and grotesquerie, Bayolo’s work addresses questions of social mores gone awry, superstition, power imbalances, and other injustices that are as relevant today as they were in the 18th century Spanish court depicted in the book of etchings by Francisco de Goya which inspired this work. Each of Goya’s 80 etchings, which will be projected on stage during the performance, jumps to life with Bayolo’s music, commenting on a world where not everyone is what they seem, where witches, demons, priests, prostitutes, the damned and the blessed all interact in a surreal human comedy.
Selections from Los Caprichos were workshopped at the Kennedy Center’s Page-to-Stage festival on September 1, 2018. Led by conductor Blair Skinner, this performance will be the world premiere of the entire work.
Tickets are available through OvationTix : $30 General Admission presale, $24 WCUCC Members / Students/Seniors & Military at the door.
