A native of Warrenton, Virginia, whose exceptional vocal talent led him to Juilliard following a sociology degree from Harvard, young bass-baritone Davóne Tines has become a muse for such composers as John Adams, Matthew Aucoin, Kaija Saariaho, and Caroline Shaw, inspiring them to write new works for his voice. Recent career highlights include appearances with the L.A. Philharmonic led by Esa Pekka Salonen and the San Francisco Symphony under Michael Tilson Thomas. His recital with pianist Adam Nielsen features songs by Franz Schubert, Johannes Brahms, Julius Eastman, and the world premiere of newly-commissioned pieces by Caroline Shaw and Tyshawn Sorey.
