District New Music Coalition is pleased to announce a call for scores composed by students at DC metro area colleges and universities for its first ever conference, New Music DC.
New Music DC will take place at Georgetown University on September 15-16, 2018. - Follow our website (districtnewmusiccoalition.com) or our social media (@DistrictNMC on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram) for up-to-date details.
This call is open to any student, undergraduate or graduate, at a college or university in the greater DC metro area. Submissions should be under 15 minutes in length, can be for any instrumentation, and must have been composed within the past 8 years (2010-2018). Compositions that include live or pre-recorded electronics of up to two channels (stereo) will also be accepted. Winners will be expected to secure their own performers, so small ensemble or solo works are recommended. Compositions may have been previously performed.
To apply, please submit an anonymous score in PDF format that includes the name of your school and your phone number on the title page. Please remove all other identifying marks from the score and in the metadata of the file. If possible, also submit a recording in mp3 format of either a live performance or a MIDI rendering. Only one submission per composer will be accepted, and composers of selected compositions are required to attend the conference.
All materials should be submitted electronically to email@example.com. Large files may be shared via file-sharing sites (Dropbox, Google Docs, etc). Include your name, phone number, and email address in the body of your message. Submissions must be received by 11:59pm on July 25, 2018.
Submissions will be reviewed by a member or members of DNMC, plus other members of the Washington, DC-area new music community. Selected compositions will be announced on or by August 13.
Selected compositions will be performed as part of a student composition concert during New Music DC. A second student composition concert may be added, depending on demand, quality of submissions, and available time during the conference. All concerts will be recorded, and the recordings will be supplied to participating composers/performers upon request.
Please feel free to email firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions you may have.
We look forward to reviewing your submissions!
